I used to think parties were only for things like birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, etc but now I know parties are for anything worth celebrating! Last week we had an absolutely wonderful party for my daughter, actually a celebration for our whole family! We had a one year Cancerversary Party! Some things are definitely worth a big celebration and beating cancer is one of those things! The party went great, we were surrounded by family and friends that helped us get through the toughest of times throughout the last year. I couldn’t be more grateful and the smile on my daughters face was so overwhelmingly beautiful!
Cancerversary day was a day filled with so many emotions-so happy to be where we are today, tough to look back at all we have been through, scared to not know what lies ahead and plain overwhelmed! Her party was months in the making and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome-one happy girl!
Reaching this milestone is different for everyone. I truly believe no two people will have the same journey through cancer, even those with the same type of cancer. Everyone copes so differently and that is ok. A Cancerversary Party is not for everyone, and that’s ok too! There is no right or wrong way to feel. In a million years I would have never imagined I would be throwing a Cancerversary Party for my daughter, this is one kind of party I never wanted to have to have, but was so happy to celebrate at the same time!
I know we are so grateful to have reached this one year milestone but also we know our journey is far from over. We will continue to live our new normal life the best we can and remain grateful we are allowed to. Thank you for letting me share part of our journey with you!
